I have read all kids of blogs and things paying tribute to President Hinckley today. I don't really have much that I can add to the sentiment other than amen. He had a huge impact on the church and the world, through not just the growth of the church but also through humanitarian work throughout the world. Great man, now finally reunited with his wife!

President Hinckley
President Hinckley passed away tonight. My SIL just called and filled me in. Deseretnews.com is super busy so I haven't been able to get on and look. Maybe you'll have better luck.

WOOOt WOOOOOOt !!!
Today, we became completely credit card debt free.
And paid off one student loan.
The only consumer debt we have is our car...which we have paid down substantially. And it WILL BE PAID OFF BY JUNE!!!!! WOOT WOOT!!
The only thing we will have after that is our student loans....we have a LOT of student loans...when I say ALOT and you think of a number...trust me...it's still not enough...we have A LOT of student loans... but we have developed a plan in which, if all goes according to plan, those will be paid off in TWO YEARS!!!!!!! AGH....dies of shock...
You know, even though we have so many student loans, I wouldn't trade the fact that I have my degree, or those best years of my life, for ANYTHING! I really had a blast...It would have been nice to have not had to pay for them at a 7% interest rate, but oh well...
Now...this is a big deal for us...Nathan and I have learned THE HARD WAY about debt. Trust me...DON"T DO IT!!!! Get out...Run away screaming!!!! You DON"T have to have debt, even though you think you do!!!! I have BTDT in a MAJOR way and I was lucky enough to have come out of it all with my marriage intact and having friends who were there for me in a BIG way...
I can't thank you all enough...
I can't tell you how lighter this has made Nathan and I feel today. It's such HUGE deal b/c we have been suffering from our bad decisions for the last 5 years and we don't have to anymore...and to actually think that in 6 months we will have our car, which has less than 40,000 miles on it, paid off!!! That's a huge deal for both of us.
Thank you, Dave Ramsey, for opening my eyes and thank you June for the gift! I knew it deep down before, but reading that book just shoved it up my nose....

So, today is the 100th day of school. Yippee! (Throws confetti) ... David had to take 100 alike things to school so I sent him with a bag of 100 marshmallows. The little fruity ones. It's a good thing we sorted out the 100 like 4 days ago cause we would have eaten all of them otherwise. MMMMmmmmm little fruity marshmallowssssss....
He has had a rough week at school. He has had to "Change his color" everyday this week and yesterday he went all the way to red! I tried to get him to tell me what happened and he kept saying he didn't want to tell me. Eventually I got something out of him but then I said I was gonna write a note to Mrs. O to see what we could do about it and then he opened up about playing with this and bangin markers and stuff. I still wrote the note but he sat by me while I wrote it and made me read it to him. Ahh, I remember the trepidation of being a child and having parents go "talk to the teacher". Yikes! I assured him it was ok. I really just want her to know that I'm not letting it slide and that it means a lot to us that he does well cause I don't want him to get stigmatized as a "bad" child. That can happen easily. I've been a teacher and had the urge myself.
Well, I'm off to Nashville next week for Obadiah's memorial. It is sort of bittersweet though b/c I am going to have the opportunity to see a lot of my old friends. I am sad that it is such an unfortunate reason for us to get together but glad that we can. I must be really shallow cause once I knew I was going I thought, I need a haircut...

So, i have been thinking about my This I Believe and I had a really good thought and then it left my brain. So I am going back to my original thought...
I believe in potential...I believe that I have the potential to be a really good mom, if I just get off my butt and turn off the Wiggles movie. I will never be June Cleaver, but I still have the potential to influence my children in positive ways. My husband has great potential. He has been trying to find his way for a while now and has found something he loves doing and has the potential to be great at it. Not necessarily flying though he will be great at that too. My children have a tremendous amount of potential. But it's my responsibility as their parent to mold and help them realize what that is. I believe that we all have the potential to be someone else's ... I will use the term because I can't think of one better...savior... I have had saviors in my life, people who have swept in at a moment of dire need and been there for me or provided something that I desperately needed. We all have the potential of doing this if we put aside ourselves and look for opportunities of need around us. Having potential, technically defined as "may" or "might", it would become easy to procrastinate though so I also believe in acting on your potential. Not putting off your possibilites..."Lay aside the Ranger and become the King you were born to be..."
ok ok enough random Lord of the Rings quotes...I believe in potential...and eventually reaching that potential....trying at least!

It's 8:30 in the morning and my two youngest are STILL asleep. That never happens...enjoy the silence....ooh, I am.

Friday night...
I hadn't written in a bit so I figured I'd better.
Not much to talk about. It's been really cold. Nathan's been gone till at least 8:00 every night this week. The kids have been sick. They are all three FINALLY acting like they're getting better but Sammy's teething pretty good. So he is a little crabby. David got sent home from school on Monday cause they said he had conjunctivitis! IT"S NOT CONJUNCTIVITIS! At least, if it was, it was the quickest case of pink eye I'd ever seen. Lasting about oh, 2 hours!!!! He has allergies really bad and gets pink eyes when they are bothering him. So I sent him to school and they made me come get him and take him to the Dr. I guess it's a good thing though cause when we got to the Dr. They checked his ears and said he had a bad infection in one!! Hello!? What? He never said anything and never had a fever, to speak of. Oh well. He has been on antibiotics and hasn't acted sick so I sent him back to school. He'd rather be there anyhow. I kept him home Tuesday and actually really enjoyed having him home. I was gonna keep him home Wed too but he wanted to go. Oh well...
So we've been just hanging out this week. Nathan is in the thick of his 2nd course (Instruments). A lot of simulator work.
That's about it. I'm off to go do some mindless and brainless...

A waste of time but fun...
So I stole this idea from a friend...These are my top 10 songs of the 1990s. Some of them have a deeper meaning and some of them are just songs that meant something to me. They are in no particular order!
1. Foolish Games by Jewel. This song just rocked. I was in college and dealing with relationships that were simply learning experiences for me! She is so passionate in this song. It's one of those songs that I will listen to every single time I hear it and sing along to at the top of my voice regardless of where I am!
2. One by U2. Cause I mean..it's U2 and I could fill this whole list full of U2 but this happens to be the quintessential Bono at his best. IMHO
3. Losing My Religion by REM. My introduction to "cool" music. Man, I love REM. Still do. Even married a guy who dances like Michael Stipe. :P
4. Loser by Beck. Skinny white dude does rap/punk thing and talks about being a loser. Every one can relate? Humorous...
5. WannaBe by The Spice Girls. GIRL POWER! Heck yeah. Even loved their silly movie!
6. Time of Your Life (Good Riddance) by Green Day. Cause who didn't hear this played at a graduation or sitting around the living room of your apartment having a friend play it on his guitar while you all sang along...well, I did at aleast...
7. Two Princes by Spin Doctors. Again, these songs only have meaning to me but I loved this dumb song and the dumb group that sang it. They reminded me of my first real crush...what's his name...won't tell.
8. Criminal by Fiona Apple. Cause I grew up.

Ike Ike would be a Slytherin for sure...No doubt! Sneaky little stinker. He's so quiet about things, he just does them. Especially when mommy isn't in the room...look out Sammy...
And when he's being funny or clever he doesn't say anything, just gives you a look out the corner of his eye. I was laying in bed with him tonight and trying to get him to go to sleep. He wasn't saying anything just looking at me out of the corner of his eye...thinking...calculating...
So...
Monday was Nathan's Birthday. We went to the Outback (thanks, mom) and had a really nice time. First time in a while I have actually enjoyed taking the kids out to eat. It was just...Fun! The kids were good and cute and funny and the food was nice and it was just really good. That's all.
I got Nathan a camera bag for his new digital camera and started his Army scrapbook for him and I am in the process of making him a plaque that holds all his military coins he's earned. I might be done with it but the Dremel has a short battery life. I will have it finished soon though and maybe post a pic if I like it enough.
Anyhow...life trudges on. The kids are lowly getting better. I am trying to get back into my walking habit. Before Christmas I went walking almost everyday either by myself or with my friends and it's been hard being sick and not wanting to do it, but I need to.
We are having a bday party for Nathan on Sat night. Should be fun. Hope lots of people come.

I am working on an essay, just something I wanted to do. Based on the book/radio show This I Believe (google it...I'm too lazy to add a link). Maybe I'll post it when I'm done....

So Nathan's mom sent us Dave Ramsay's Financial Peace Software and Total Money Makeover book/workbook. And, well, Nathan being who he is, just had us sit down for ...mmmm....we were probably at it for roughly 5-6 hours today. My brain is fried. But at least we know where we stand. We DID kind of anyways...but now we *REALLY* do.
And Isaac has an ear infection...in both ears....just like Sammy. His fever was 103.5 at 11am this morning. We went to the urgent care. He's on meds. Ever try to get a two year old independent stubborn lil stinker to try to take meds? Ususally ends up with me covered in pink goo. I have researched online and most of the things I read said not to feel guilty if you have to revert to brute strength. So I'm not...feeling guilty that is. It takes two to get a thing done right...Nathan holding flailing limbs while I hold head still and squeeze meds down his cheek and then blow in his face to get him to swallow. I am sure the neighbors thought we were killing him last night. Boy has some strong lungs for being such a quiet child.

It takes two to get a thing done right...Nathan holding flailing limbs while I hold head still and squeeze meds down his cheek and then blow in his face to get him to swallow. I am sure the neighbors thought we were killing him last night. Boy has some strong lungs for being such a quiet child.

Okay Okay.. I know it's a bit excessive. Forgive me and humour me! This is a really cool video called 'The Decline Of Severus Snape' and I think the person who made it did a really good job at manipulating the movies to come up with this. Oh My Holy ROFL!!!!!!

Urgh...poor baby...
So I knew it was gonna happen...I just had a hunch.
We went swimming in the hotel pool this weekend and as I saw Sammy playing in the water, I thought "he's gonna get an ear infection. I hope he doesn't get an ear infection". Guess what? Sammy has an ear infection. A rip snorting one in both ears. His fever was 102.6 last night and he has been miserable. My only child to ever have an ear infection ever! Poor baby. So now he is being seriously drugged. Benadryl for the stuffy nose and cough, Robistussin for the chest congestion, Amoxo for the ears, and Tylenol and Motrin for the fever. This is what they told me to do so I am doing it. If it makes him feel better.....

Fun for me if no one else...(TN trip)
Matt and Connie. Those little ones sure love their Uncle Matt. Ike Ike spent yesterday afternoon singing ABCs tune with the words "Uncle Matt, uncle matt, uncle matt, uncle uncle matt...." and he cried when we had to leave.

Fun for me if no one else...(Christmas Day)
Ok...so I followed Tyler Florence's recipe to the letter...Prime Rib Roast...I cooked it just as long as he said to...when we cut into it I could swear the durn thing was still mooing. We tried to each take a bite of it but the puddle of blood on the plate was not very appealing. So we tied it back together with a string and let it cook for another hour and a half. It was super tasty...once it was done!!!!

Well, Christmas is officially put away. I am glad really. Get things back to normal. I have a few New Years Resolutions to work on...lose 20 lbs, organize my house, lose 20 lbs, work hard at my cake business, lose 20 lbs...
As soon as my hubby figures out how to burn my copy of the pics from Christmas I will post them.....twiddles fingers....

Anywho...We had a wonderful Christmas. Santa Claus was good to us. Christmas Eve we went over to some friends for a party and had lots of yummy food, read the Cmas story, and played Cranium. Then we came home and the boys put out goodies for Santa, spread reindeer food on the lawn, and actually went to bed fairly easily. The whole thing that Santa only comes when you are asleep really helps.
Then we all got up for the real party! Our boys are still small enough that we had to remind them that it was Christmas and that Santa had come. Once we did, David was up like a shot! Santa brought David Piranha Panic game that he had been asking for for ages. Ike Ike got a big Diego Mega Blocks set, and Sammy got Tickle Me Extreme Cookie Monster!! :) Nathan got his digital Camera and mommy got a 3 tier serving tray set that I have been wanting for a while (and some cash to go get myself a few things I needed!) Granni was able to come and spend the holiday with us which was nice also. The day after Cmas we went bargain hunting and found a few things but not much. I actually used up all the wrapping paper we owned this Cmas! I didn't think that ever happened! It was down to the wire there for a bit, I didn't know if we were gonna make it! Thursday we packed up the car and took Granni up to the airport and from there drove on to Nashville, where I grew up, to visit my brother and his family and my dad and his wife and my brother and his girlfriend drove down from St Louis. We spent Friday hanging out till Dad got there then it was like mass chaos as the kids were so excited not just by the arrival of Poppop and Uncle Frank but also the massive pile of Christmas presents that appeared with their arrival! We had a nice meal and then opened each others' presents. It was very nice. Saturday we went to Opry Mills (used to be a theme park Opryland but they tore it down and built a mall, gag) and walked around the Opryland Hotel Conservatory and then went swimming in PopPop's hotel pool. The kids had a blast! Nathan was really beat so I took him back to where we were staying and dropped him off with the kids and I went back to my brother's and we siblings (minus Nathan) stayed up till almost 3 am playing games and hanging out. It was so fun! It was nice to meet Matt's girlie friend Connie, as well. She was very sweet and we all liked her very much. Sunday we went to my old ward and I recognized like nobody! It's amazing how things change in 12 years! :P
Then PopPop and that group had to leave but Nathan and I decided to stay on one more night and crashed at Frank's. We played a few games after the kids had all gone to bed and all in all it was a very fun weekend. I was so pleased at how well our kids got along and it made me wish they could see their cousins more often. David really enjoyed playing with E and O and one morning sat at the kitchen table with O just "talking" for the longest time. They got on really well. And Ike Ike managed to play with B a little bit though they are both so young that they just kinda did their own thing. I was glad they didn't fight at least! Sadly, it was the first time that all the siblings and all their kids had gotten together...ever! We'll just have to not let that take so long till the next time! :) I'll post more pics soon!
